Description
This painting was made with great emotion, care and love.
It is a tribute to Michael Benjamin aka Mikaben, a shining star who marked our youth and accompanied us into adulthood until his recent death (Oct 15, 2022). Michael was a genius, an icon of Haitian music, a national pride and he left a striking legacy. He represented Haiti in various ways and I believe that his love for his country should remain an example for the entire nation and for generations to come.
His devotion to art led me to this work: my first portrait -impressionism style- in gouache on canvas. May this portrait, vibrant with colors, be a reminder of his dazzling personality and a tribute to his greatness of spirit. May this honor his short but meaningful life, his brilliant career and his invaluable contribution to Haitian music. To know him is to know Haiti.
